What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy, it should not be considered as an alternative to conventional medicine. It is also an Holistic therapy, in which the mind, body and spirit are all treated.
This is
achieved by the use of gentle pressure with only the fingers or thumbs on parts of the feet,
or when appropriate, the hands. (These are called reflex areas or points by
reflexologists). These reflex points mirror, and correspond to, specific areas of the body. The various
organs and glands of the body are stimulated in this way to work to one hundred percent
of their capacity. This helps to return the body's systems to a natural state of
balance, working together at their best, and enhancing the recipients own natural healing capabilities.
Reflexology
reduces stress by inducing deep relaxation; it improves the circulation and
helps in cleansing the body of toxins. It can be particularly helpful in
combating recurring and long-term conditions in a drug free environment.
Reflexology, in the hands of a qualified practitioner, is perhaps the most powerful of all complementary therapies, and whilst no accredited and properly qualified reflexologist will ever claim to cure, experience shows that very positive health benefits are gained through the use of this therapy.
Exactly how reflexology works is still the subject of discussion. It is a fact that all living beings possess their own measurable electro-magnetic field. It is the opinion of reflexologynow that reflexology works by the stimulation of the recipients own electro-magnetic energy via the large number of nerve endings in the feet.
